Sag Harbor Industries was established in 1946 by Charles Edison, son of Inventor Thomas Alva Edison, as an American manufacturer specializing in custom electromagnetic components. Built on the Edison legacy of innovation and ingenuity, we have spent over 80 years serving customers with precision manufacturing and engineering expertise. The company has since evolved into a family-owned manufacturer under one of Edison's original partners, Paul Scheerer.
All products are 100% Made in USA, with manufacturing facilities located in both New York and North Carolina. We are ISO 9001:2015 certified, dedicated to quality, reliability, and performance across a wide range of industries. From prototype to volumes of production, we partner with customers to deliver components built to exact specifications.

A Legacy Born from Innovation
Charles Edison · Founder, 1946
Charles Edison, son of Inventor Thomas Alva Edison, founded Sag Harbor Industries in 1946 in the historic village of Sag Harbor, New York. Originally known for its maritime and whaling heritage, Sag Harbor evolved into a center of manufacturing and industry, providing economic opportunity for the local community.
Charles built a distinguished career in business, public service, and government. In 1927, he became president of his father's company, Thomas A. Edison Inc. He later served as Assistant Secretary and Secretary of the U.S. Navy, before becoming the 42nd Governor of New Jersey. As a man that valued industries, his vision for the company was to prove smaller, localized manufacturers could be more responsive, adaptable, and productive than larger centralized operations. Starting with small electric coils used in clocks and appliances to providing components for the NYSE quotation board, Airline reservation systems, Electric football games, spacecraft communications with COM DEV, General Electric, and other advanced technologies.
As Charles Edison pursued other ventures, leadership transitioned to his original partners Paul Scheerer and Stuart Miller. Today, Sag Harbor Industries remains a family-owned under the Scheerer family with manufacturing facilities in New York and North Carolina. With its subsidiary, Dortronics Systems Inc., the company continues its commitment to American manufacturing, engineering expertise, and quality-driven production.
Eight Decades of Growth
Milestones
Charles Edison is born on August 3rd in West Orange, New Jersey, as the fifth child of Thomas Alva Edison. Growing up surrounded by innovation and engineering, he develops an early interest in technology and industry. He later attends the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating with a degree in electrical engineering.
Charles Edison becomes President of Thomas A. Edison Inc., continuing his father's legacy. He develops valuable experience in manufacturing, engineering, and business leadership that would later influence the founding of many industries.
Charles Edison is appointed Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Navy in 1937. Following the death of Navy Secretary Claude Swanson in 1940, Edison briefly serves as Secretary of the Navy before resigning later that year to pursue politics.
Charles Edison is elected as the 42nd Governor of New Jersey. During his administration, he advocates government modernization, administrative reform, and economic development during wartime years.
Charles Edison founds Sag Harbor Industries in Sag Harbor, New York, with the vision that smaller, localized manufacturers can provide greater responsiveness, adaptability, and product quality than a larger one. The company begins by producing custom electric coils for clocks, appliances, and industrial applications.
Sag Harbor Industries experiences rapid growth, requiring a major expansion of its original facility. The addition exceeds the size of the original building, reflecting the increasing demand for the company's custom electromagnetic products. During this period, customers include luxury manufacturer Jaeger-LeCoultre and the clock division of Lux Products Corporation.
As technology advances across America, Sag Harbor Industries becomes involved in a variety of innovative applications. Custom coils manufactured by the company are incorporated into automated stock quotation systems for the New York Stock Exchange, American Airline reservation technology, and Electric football games made by both Tudor Metal Products and Gotham Pressed Steel. These projects demonstrate the versatility and reliability of Sag Harbor's manufacturing capabilities.
The company expands alongside the growth of fluid power, aerospace, and computer industries. Sag Harbor Industries supplies custom components for customers including Valcor Engineering, Skinner Electric Valve, COM DEV International, and General Electric. Its products are used in solenoid valves, satellite communications equipment, aerospace systems, and computer technologies. General Electric becomes one of the company's largest customers, ordering nearly 60,000 coils per week.
